Newly redesigned for 2019, the 5010 gets a longer reach of about 15mm across the size range and a slightly slacker head tube angle by half a mil. The seat tube angle has been steepened to 75 degrees from 73.8, all of which is part of the longer-and-slacker modernized geometry moves being taken by most mountain bike manufactures in this category.

The new 5010 comes with a flip chip for the first time, which can be utilized to make small but significant geometry changes to optimize the bike’s ride characterstics and also allow increased tire sizes, up to 2.8. More than geometry has been updated with the addition of supports and reinforcement in both triangles.

Santa Cruz has long been the master practitioner of designing bikes around the Virtual Pivot Point suspension system. The upper-link driven VPP on the 5010 is configured to be sharp and responsive, making for a responsive and snappy pedaling feel on climbs yet with a progressive travel curve on the descents that may convince you there is more than 130mm of travel here.

Available in alloy and two levels of carbon and a very wide range of build kits, the 5010 is a precision tool for the rider looking for a bike that will be aggressive and agile in its descending while still being a very capable climber. We have 5010 in the demo fleet – go try it out yourself soon.
