Charcoal / Raw Carbon Zoom

Seems like every bike maker out there is offering a one-bike-quiver model, the proverbial do-everything bike.

Like many other 2019 bikes in this category, Horsethief is a 29er that will accommodate 27.5 x 3 tires. The headtube has been slackened one degree, chainstays have been shortened and there is a flip chip in the frame to adjust geometry between wheel size choices.

The unique factor in Horsethief lies in its split-pivot suspension design. Salsa has used it since 2010 and claims it addresses antisquat issues for improved pedaling peformance. The design separates acceleration and braking forces by way of a concentric dropout – a split pivot. Salsa also says the the design allows for tuning the shock exclusively to small bump compliance, which all but guarantees active and supportive suspension.

Salsa also has gone with a slightly wider 157mm hub spacing known as Super Boost, which has been around for some years in downhill bikes and is making inroads to standard trail bikes. This opens up the tire size options mentioned above allowing riders to have a through choice on bike setup.

Available in carbon in two build kits, The Horsethief is ready to test ride today!
